Reporting and Writing

During my time with The Clypian, my primary focus has been on the social media aspect of journalism. While I haven’t always followed the traditional route of writing and reporting, I’ve still had the opportunity to showcase the core elements of journalism. Reporting on sporting events, school-wide activities and writing related stories has allowed me to exercise my journalistic skills while reaching a wide audience through digital platforms.

Instagram stories have become an essential tool for keeping South Salem students informed, especially when it comes to sporting events. They offer a quick and easy way to update scores for games, meets, and matches, providing real-time information that students can access from anywhere.

By pairing these updates with action shots or videos from the event, we create engaging content that highlights the excitement of the games. These stories are posted after each quarter, during halftime, and at the end of the event to ensure the community stays in the loop throughout. It’s a simple yet effective way to connect with students and keep them updated on the latest sports news.

Caitlin Clark: Inspiration On and Off the Court

I’m quite sure you have heard the name Caitlin Clark and if not, let me tell you a little about her. Clark, the senior starting point guard for the University of Iowa women’s basketball team, is breaking records left and right. Caitlin Clark has just recently became the all time leading scorer in NCAA basketball history. On February 15 2024, Clark surpassed Kelsey Plum, who held the record of most points in NCAA women’s basketball history. Caitlin ended the game, where she broke this record, over Michigan scoring 49 points, tallying her total points to 3,569. Even more recently she surpassed Pete Maravich, who held the record of most overall points in men’s and women’s college basketball, in Iowa’s win over Ohio State on March 3 2024. Not only has she changed Iowa women’s basketball, or even women’s college basketball overall. She has impacted basketball, men and women’s.

So why should you care? It’s bigger than basketball, it’s about getting to experience life in a whole new outlook than ever before, and that is why it should matter to you...
