Commitment to Diversity

South Salem High School stands out as one of the most diverse schools in the Salem-Keizer district. Our South teachers, administrators and student leaders strive to create a safe and welcoming school-wide community that supports diversity and inclusion.
Dynamic Leadership

Briella Mathis '26 and myself (Lily Squires '25) speaking at the November assembly that involved the native club and leadership students.
South Salem High School promotes diverse leadership by bringing together students of all backgrounds to enhance our school's sense of belonging and increasing participation in cultural and community events. This includes celebrations like the birthday party for our beloved Sparrow, Sammy, a sweet elementary-aged girl battling illness, as well as running assemblies where different clubs showcase their cultures. As the senior class vice president, I get to have the opportunity to be part of these initiative, ensuring that these events run smoothly and successfully.
Unified Program
I find it very important to showcase the South Salem Unified Program, as the program is very important to our mission of being inclusive and supporting our entire student body. A reel showcasing the 2024 Unified Assembly showed the incredible unified athletes, highlighted teamwork and displayed our schools commitment to cheering on every SSHS student. We also use our platform to promote unified events such as reposting posts that promote Salem's Polar Plunge for Special Olympics. Ensuring that our students with disabilities get the recognition and spotlight they deserve is very important to me.

Highlighting Diversity
Women's History Month

On The Clypian Instagram we wanted to celebrate Women's History Month by honoring some of the incredible women of the South Salem HS staff who inspire and empower students every day. Their dedication, passion, and leadership to our school is truly inspiring and is paving the way for future generations.
Black History Month

We also want to celebrate Black History Month with posts that highlights some incredible Black voices in our school and community. We interviewed Tatiana Land '24, a key member of the Black Student Union at South, who is a familiar face to many to create personal connection for the post.
